The Road to LU 3 (Finally Entering the Door)

"Med School provides perhaps the best substantiation for
Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection. For here we
see in its cruelest form the survival of the fittest. Not
the smartest, as one should expect. But the fittest to
cope with the inhuman pressures, the demands made not only
on the brain but on the psyche..."
                                   - Doctors by Erich Segal

Today, I join all the Filipinos in celebrating our 114th Independence Day“Hindi ako kailanman mawawalan ng pag-asa sa iyo, Pilipinas. Sa patuloy na pag-ikot ng mundo, alam kong darating din ang araw na makakamtan mong maging tunay na malaya.” (Tunay na Malaya, 2011) And I also join my 159 other fellow UP College of Medicine LU 3 (1st Year Medicine Proper) classmates in making the most out of our last day of summer vacation – a.k.a. the day before it all begins. I spent the early morning reading and managed to finish the brilliant novel from which the above quote was taken. Doctors is a masterpiece and I believe it superbly captures the joys, pains, dedication, hardship, and fulfillment of being a doctor, all the way from Med School to practice. After a late lunch, Mom and I headed for the mall to hunt for a study table and stock up on groceries.

Anyhow, I can’t believe the day has finally come. Tomorrow, I officially start MedProper – graduate school. The real journey towards achieving my coveted M.D. starts! The month is filled with countless welcome parties from our buddies from Class 2016 as well as the different orgs of our college. Our schedule for the year has also been given to us and I find it overwhelming to know that come the last week of this very month, we’ll have our first set of exams already! Wow…

I look forward to starting the year right! Here’s to a year of fun, learning, bonding, and all sorts of surprises! Let’s do this, UPCM Class 2017~!
